In 1625 Vincent de Paul founded the Congregation of the Mission, a society of missionary priests commonly known as the Vincentians or Lazarists. In 1633, with the assistance of Louise de Marillac he founded the Daughters of Charity. |

In 1830 St. Catherine Laboure had 3 visions of the Blessed Virgin Mary here, and was shown an image she was to have cast into a medal, called miraculous because of the many miracles wrought through Mary's intercession. |

Exhumed in 1933, the body of St. Catherine was found to be incorrupt. |

On the facade, there are 28 statues of the Kings of Judah and of Israel, the ancestors of Christ. Above these are statues of Adam and Eve. In the centre, a large rose almost 10 meters across forms a halo above the statue of the Virgin Mary, who is flanked by two angels and presents us her Child, Jesus, the Son of God. |
