October, Month of the Rosary
October is an enjoyable time of the year with fall foliage, cooler temperatures, outdoor activities (and lots of football.) For the Church it is a month dedicated to the Holy Rosary. We celebrate the Feast of the Holy Rosary on October 7. It commemorates an important naval victory won by the Christians at the Battle of Lepanto, thanks to the many Christians throughout Europe praying the Rosary for success in preventing the Islamic invasion.
Try to make a more concerted effort to pray the Rosary on your own, in the car, and together as a family during the month of October, and come early for Mass to join our parishes in praying the rosary.
"The Rosary is a contemplative prayer, and it has great intercessory power: whoever recites it, is united to Mary in meditating the mysteries of Christ, and is led to invoke the proper graces to these mysteries in the multiple situations of life and history." - Pope John Paul II

Respect Life Sunday and Life Chain
The first Sunday of October is Respect Life Sunday, a day to remember the dignity and value of every human life from the moment of our creation until our natural death. The theme this year is "The Measure of Love is to Love without Measure", reminding us that there can be no compromise with the standard set by Jesus himself on the cross, which he continually calls us to: to love every life as a unique and irreplaceable creation of God.
As in past years, we will hold a Life Chain in Ashland on this day at 2:00 PM. Join us on Sunday October 3 for a prayerful, silent hour of witness for life at the corner of 14th and Silver Streets. Come and stand up for human life and especially for the unborn children. Signs are provided.

Pontifical Mission Societies
Sunday October 24 is World Mission Sunday. This is an opportunity to remember that we are all called to be missionary. We pray for the Church in mission countries, and contribute to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. This annual appeal gathers gifts from Catholics all over the world in support for the Catholic Church's worldwide Missions.
Our K-8 CCD students will again participate in the Holy Childhood Association this year. A program of "children helping children", our youth are invited to pray and to offer financial help so that children in the Missions may also know Christ and experience His love and care.
